 Banshee

Banshee – a new chamber opera set in Ireland around 1800 with libretto by Michael Irwin. Due to workshop in early 2008

 Promised Land

Promised Land is a new opera commissioned by Canterbury Festival which opened in The Marlowe Theatre, Canterbury in October 2006 to great critical acclaim.
With a riveting libretto by Michael Irwin and music composed and conducted by Mark, it is provocative, moving, exciting and controversial.
The story follows the decline of the hopping and mining industries in East Kent, and traces the relationships which developed between two families over a sixty year period.

The production involved eight professional opera singers, a 16-piece orchestra and singers and performers from various local communities. It was played on a fabulous set designed by Gary McCann www.garymccann.com and was directed by Syd Ralph

 Brendan Power

Mark performs regularly with internationally acclaimed harmonica player Brendan Power. Brendan has recorded with Sting, Van Morrison, Paul Young, Mary Black, Donal Lunny, Altan, James Galway and Paul Brady. He is acknowledged by many as one of the most versatile and creative harp players in the world, particularly in his adaptation of the harmonica to Celtic and other ethnic folk music styles. Both he and Mark share an interest in jazz, folk music and Bulgarian dance rhythms, and this is reflected in the original music they produce. Together with bassist Simon Little (The Divine Comedy, The Beautiful South) drummer Steve Taylor, and percussionst Lucy Randall, they perform under the name Jig Jazz.
